Inspirations - Movies that helped us with our narrative

Above is the opening to "The Ring'', a psychological horror that was produced in 2002. The film centres around a mysterious videotape that causes death to anyone within a week of watching it

As a group, we particularly focussed on the opening scene of "The Ring". The clever use of camera angles and vantage points were key elements that we extracted, and strongly considered implementing in our own opening sequence. The opening scene used a number of the factors we originally felt would be applicable to our film; seclusion, unexplainable occurrences and a heavy lack in dramatic irony. The producers constantly keep the audience in the dark as to what will happen in the scene, e.g. slowly drawing the environment into the audiences eyeshot, basically putting the audience in the position of the character

"The Ring" reinforced ideas that we had already gleaned from our research (audience research, and genre research), such as the age and gender of the main character. "The Ring" strongly influenced our choices and decisions in constructing our coursework piece
